2024 Lenten Project: Building God’s Church Together

St. Eugene has been in a Twinning Relationship with Our Lady Queen of Apostles in Nkokonjeru, Uganda for 22 years, since 2002.  Since 2006 we have been supporting their agriculture projects which have been very successful. This year we are helping with the completion of the St. Joseph’s chapel in the Gamba Subparish. There are 37 subparishes that are associated with our sister parish in Nkokonjeru. Many do not have chapels to celebrate Mass, pray the rosary or have baptisms. The St. Joseph’s chapel will need the roof finished as well as putting in doors and windows. It also will need an altar, pews, chairs, paint and a latrine.  By helping to complete this chapel, we will be “BUILDING GOD’S CHURCH TOGETHER!” Both the church and school are involved in the twinning relationship. Lenten Kickoff weekend was held Feb 17th and 18th. The Voices of Africa Choir joined the St. Eugene choir at the Sunday masses on February 18th. Such beautiful and amazing voices. The school holds 3 No Uniform Days where students donate $2 dollars to the Lenten Project so they don’t have to wear their school uniform that day. The 6th grade students produce a video showcasing the Lenten Project and the 4th grade students make posters that are placed around the school. Many parishioners have traveled to visit our sister parish and we have had visitors visit us as well.

We pray for our brothers and sisters in Uganda and many of us have prayer partners. St. Eugene is so blessed to be able to continue this relationship.

In 2002, St Eugene began a Twinning Relationship with Our Lady Queen of Apostles Parish in in Nkokonjeru, Uganda and for the past 15 years, we have assisted them with sustainable agriculture programs.

The relationship with our Sister Parish isn't just about donating money, it is about sustaining the friendships that we have made and to continue praying for each other. Please remember to pray for Our Lady Queen of Apostles family and know that they pray for us.
